DEPOSIT REQUIREMENTS
A deposit payment equal to the first night's total is due at time of booking to confirm all online reservations. The Monhegan House accepts Discover, MasterCard and Visa.

Posted rates do not include Maine Lodging Tax (currently 9%).
CANCELLATION POLICY
As a small, seasonal business operating in a remote location, cancellations have a significant impact on our viability. As such, the Monhegan House has a strict cancellation policy. Upon confirmation of your reservation, you are liable for the entire cost of your stay, subject to the following:
With at least 21 days notice of cancellation (45 days for suites), deposits are refunded less a per-room rebooking fee of $50 plus tax ($100 plus tax for suites).
With fewer than 21(45) days notice of cancellation, deposits are refunded only if all same-type rooms are fully booked. Per-room rebooking fee of $50($100) plus tax will be deducted from any refund due. A charge for the remaining balance owed on the reservation will be posted on the formerly scheduled departure date, less any credit for rebooked night(s).
Requests to remove one or more days from a confirmed reservation are subject to the cancellation policies outlined above. A request to change arrival and/or departure dates for the same length of stay within the same season will not generally be considered a cancellation. However, we reserve the right to charge a re-booking fee for significant last minute changes.
GROUP bookings and room blocks are subject to separate cancellation policies as determined by Monhegan House management and group leader(s) and/or responsible parties or businesses.
ADDITIONAL CHARGES
Children are welcome (with accompanying adult(s)). Children aged 3 and under are free. An additional charge of $35.00/night plus tax will be assessed for all children aged 12 and under (beyond 2 guests occupancy per double room or 1 guest occupancy per single room).
A charge of $59.00/night plus tax will be assessed for any additional adults (13 and older) beyond standard room occupancy.
Portacribs and cots/mats are available as needed at no charge.
A charge of $50.00 plus tax will be assessed for any lost or unreturned room key.
A surcharge of $25.00 plus tax will be applied to all one-night reservations.
COVID Surcharge - The Monhegan House reserves the right to apply a per reservation surcharge if necessary to address changes in CDC or state guidance.
DINING
Early morning coffee is available in our cozy parlor each morning from 6:30 am – 7:30 am. An assortment of teas and a tea kettle are available all day and evening.
The Monhegan House room rate (Modified American Plan) INCLUDES full American style breakfast as well as dinner. Both meals are served à la carte in our dining room each day.
The Novelty is open each day and offers pizza, salads, sandwiches, drinks, wine, beer and more.
Hotel guests may charge all Novelty and dining room purchases directly to their room.
We offer milk alternatives (soy) and gluten free items in our dining room and the Novelty. Please let your server or order taker know of any allergies or dietary restrictions prior to ordering.
Guests are welcome to bring alcoholic beverages into our dining room as the Monhegan House does not have a serving license. An excellent selection of beer and wine is available for purchase in the hotel lobby as well as the Novelty.
BATHROOMS
The majority of our guest rooms do not have private bath facilities within the room.
These rooms utilize detached, centrally located bathroom facilities on the first and second floors. There are multiple individual private shower rooms (one being a tub shower) and multiple individual private half-baths (sink and toilet) on the first floor as well as two individual private half-baths on the second floor. Guests staying on the top floor must walk down one flight to access a half-bath and two flights to utilize a shower room.
HOTEL POLICIES
CHECK-IN / CHECK-OUT
Check-in is from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Please visit the front desk upon arrival to check on room status as early check in may be available. Arriving guests may not enter their assigned room without first visiting the front desk. For those guests arriving on earlier boats, luggage will be held without charge and delivered to assigned rooms. Please clearly label all baggage and identify your luggage to our driver upon arrival (see important notes regarding luggage below). The Monhegan House is not responsible for any unattended luggage left on the dock.
If arriving after 5:00 pm, please notify the front desk no later than the prior day to make arrangements for after hours check-in.
Check-out is 9:30 am. Late checkout is discouraged and subject to a late checkout fee. Guest luggage will be held on site and delivered to the appropriate ferry according to scheduled departure without charge. All luggage must be identified at checkout to ensure transport to the correct ferry. The front desk will tag all luggage appropriately. The Monhegan House is not responsible for any unidentified luggage left anywhere in the lobby.
Departing guests are welcome to utilize hotel amenities (restrooms, lobby, porch and grounds) until their actual departure time.
LUGGAGE
Bags and other items are delivered to your room as a courtesy. Our hotel is a multi story building with some narrow corridors and no elevator. To avoid injury to our employees, please limit the weight of each piece of luggage or freight to no more than 40 lbs. A service charge of $20 per item will be incurred for any luggage deemed to be of excess weight or size.
KEYS
Room keys must be returned to the front desk at the time of checkout. If a key is lost or not returned, your credit card will be charged $50 to cover the cost of replacement.
SMOKING
The Monhegan House is a completely SMOKE FREE property. This includes all tobacco products as well as e-cigarettes (vaping devices) and cannabis. There is no smoking permitted inside any building, on the fire escape or anywhere on the Monhegan House grounds. If you must smoke, please do so elsewhere. Please DO NOT dispose of cigarette butts in our trash cans. Inquire at the front desk if you can’t dispose of them elsewhere. Any guest in violation of this rule is subject to immediate eviction and will be charged a minimum of $250.00 for smoke abatement and/or cleanup.
QUIET TIME
The Monhegan House graciously asks that guests observe quiet time in all areas of the hotel, inside and out, from 10:00 pm until 7:00 am so that all our visitors enjoy a relaxed and restful experience.
ELECTRONIC DEVICES
The Monhegan House asks that guests silence or use headphones with all electronic devices in all common areas and our dining room so as not to disturb other guests. We also ask that guests refrain from making and/or receiving phone calls in any public area of the hotel.
CHEMICALS / HAZARDOUS WASTE
Monhegan does not have a facility that accepts toxic waste. Guests must take any leftover products such as paint thinner, brush cleaner, etc. with them when they depart the island. Any violation of this policy will result in a minimum $50.00 disposal fee.
PETS
The Monhegan House is unable to accommodate pets of any kind.

There is an ATM available in the Novelty.
