Monhegan island is a small island off the coast of Maine in the Atlantic Ocean. Even though we are small, there is beauty in the simplicity and nature of island life. Take a hike through the forest, comb the beach, or visit some of the popular local shops. Staying on Monhegan island is a time to escape the stresses of every day life and try something new and refreshing. There is something for everyone.
With stunning views it is no wonder the Island is known as "The Artists' Island." It has been for over 150 years. This gallery represents over 50 contemporary artists and their beautiful Monhegan Island Art.
Attached to the Monhegan Lighthouse guests can enjoy the art of Maud Briggs Knowlton , who painted Monhegan Island in the late 1890's. They also offer tours of the actual lighthouse twice a week with weather permitting.
